Entering the realm of documentary filmmaking from the perspective of contemporary art, I find that both fields share a similar stance toward the world: they remain close yet slightly apart — we dwell within reality, while simultaneously turning back to observe it.

What I find exhilarating about making documentaries is the chance to immerse myself in the distinct lives of each subject. Their stories may comfort, inspire, confront, or unsettle me; they disrupt my sense of stability, yet enrich my life. If lifting the camera is an act of imagination, then what unfolds during the process is reality. Documentary, then, emerges in the space where imagination recedes and reality grows.

If these experiences hold meaning, I believe it is because the reality revealed through images offers details that imagination alone can never reach. That is where warmth and truth reside.
